In my last COVID update (#3), I mentioned I would be posting some information for on-line training opportunities. There are three I am recommending:
- Raising your Puppy (by The Dog Gurus)
- Tricks for Fun (by The Dog Gurus)
- Scent Games (by Canine Campus Pet Resort)
I have used The Dog Guru’s comprehensive “Knowing Dogs” series to train my entire staff. I have viewed both of the programs offered above and they are a great tool to get your dog (of any age, not just puppy) started on basic manners, commands, and tricks. If you order them through Canine Campus, we will get a portion of the proceeds (see disclaimer below). I obviously would not recommend The Dog Gurus if I didn’t use them myself.
All of the Tricks for Fun training is included in the Raising your Puppy course. Even if your dog is no longer a puppy, many of the additional training issues included in Raising your Puppy are still useful if you are having problems in those areas. If you have questions on which to order, I would get the Raising your Puppy course. There is no need to purchase both.
If you are interested in either of The Dog Guru’s courses, click on their respective link in their course description below.
The Scent Games class is being offered free of charge and is being put together by myself and Karen Stapleton. If you are interested in this course, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are still putting the final touches on this, and will provide a link to access the training as soon as possible.
More detailed information on all three programs are provided below.
Any questions, please contact us at email@example.com.

Raising your Puppy
Puppies are the cutest, aren’t they? And that’s a good thing because they’re also a bit, um, challenging.
Robin Bennett, a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, author, and dog expert should know. She recently brought home a new puppy – an impossibly cute yellow Lab named Ranger – who is full of puppy kisses, adorable antics and a whole lot of mischief.
Ranger is not Robin’s first puppy and, as a certified professional dog trainer, she has helped hundreds of dog parents navigate through the joys and frustrations of puppydom. But Robin admits that she had sort of forgotten just how much time, energy and patience (so much patience!) puppies require.
Join Ranger and Robin for her online course: Raising Your Puppy: The Ultimate Video Guide to Your Puppy’s First 6 Months.
This on-line course is a step-by-step guide on what to do from the moment your puppy comes home. As he or she grows, you’ll receive ongoing guidance, tips and advice for every stage of development.
You’ll also get:
- Online access to short video tutorials covering all aspects of raising your puppy from 8 weeks to 6 months.
- A weekly “What to Do This Week” printable checklist so your whole family knows the week’s puppy-raising goals.
- Tips and tricks for solving common puppy issues such as jumping, biting, and house soiling
- Membership in an exclusive Facebook group where you can ask questions of Robin and other puppy parents.
- My best picks on puppy toys, treats, crates, and other products.
- 1 year of unlimited access. Go at your own pace and review the material as many times as you need to.

This started as a program put together by Mary Helinski and was offered as a three hour seminar taught at the Washington County Humane Society. It has also been incorporated at Canine Campus Pet Resort as an enrichment activity offered to boarding and daycare dogs.
Mary and Karen have been active in Search and Rescue work since 2007 and have trained several of their own dogs as well as being National level instructors and evaluators in Mantrailing, Area Search and Human Remains Detection. Both have been instructors/trainers for obedience classes and also have experience in many other dog training areas.
This program will provide you with a basic understanding of how important scent is for dogs and how you can use this tool to build confidence and a bond with your dog while having a ton of fun and wearing him out. It will walk you through various exercises you can easily do at home with items you would normally toss in the recycle bin. You and your dog’s progress is only limited by your imagination.
Come join in the fun and email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to sign up. We will send the link as soon as its available. This is being offered for free.
